Brzezinski: "Public In America Woefully Ignorant About The World"

"I think on the domestic front, there's one issue that is dear to my heart because it is related to foreign policy, though it may not strike you as necessary as the most important. In terms of socioeconomic conditions, it may not be the most important. And that is education, public education about the world. The fact is we are a democracy. We can only conduct a foreign policy that the public supports. The public in America is woefully ignorant about the world. And our educational system has failed to correct that, and I have to say that in recent years our presidents have not done what is needed," Zbigniew Brzezinski said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" today. Brzezinski served as United States National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter from 1977 to 1981. Send to a Friend |

Chris Christie To Romney: Release Your Tax Returns

"I went back a number of years and released my tax returns and I release them every year after I file them, right after I file them, to the public in New Jersey so they can see them. And I think I think that's the right way to go, and that's what I would tell Gov. Romney to do. Now, he said he would release them in April. I hope he does. That's what I would advise him to do," Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) said on "Morning Joe" on Wednesday. Send to a Friend |

Jarrett: "Direct Impact" Of GOP Opposition To Millionaires Tax Will Be "Layoffs"

On MSNBC's "Morning Joe" today, senior Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett defended her politically charged rhetoric at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Dr. King's church, over the weekend where she said public jobs are in "jeopardy" because of the Republicans in Congress. "Teachers, and firefighters, and policemen, whose jobs are now in jeopardy because congress, well let me be specific, because [of] the Republicans in congress," Jarrett said to applause and laughter from the congregation this weekend. This morning, Jarrett said the "direct impact" of Republicans opposing the bill, specifically the way to pay for it, will be "layoffs" across the country. "They wanted to protect the wealthiest and as a result, the direct impact is going to be across our country we're going to see layoffs of people who provide very vital resources -- services, to our communities," Jarrett told the "Morning Joe" panel. Transcript below. JARRETT: I think it's very clear that the Republicans voted against the American Jobs Act each time when the whole act was before Congress, when each component part, practically all of them, the Republicans voted against it. So, yes, all across the country we have teachers and firefighters, first responders, whose jobs are at risk because we don't have that act in place. And so it did a great deal of damage, and I think that the Republicans would agree that they voted against it. They didn't like the way we going to pay for it. Where we were going to have a modest tax increase on those who are the wealthiest and they oppose that. They wanted to protect the wealthiest and as a result, the direct impact is going to be across our country we're going to see layoffs of people who provide very vital resources -- services, to our communities. Trumka: "I Agree With Some Of The Things Gingrich Says" About Bain

“I agree with some of the things Newt Gingrich says. Not a lot, but some,” AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe" today. "I heard Joe say it's going to backfire because of the attack on free enterprise," Trumka said. "The question is: What kind of free enterprise, and who does that free enterprise benefit?” Trumka said. “If that kind of free enterprise only benefits the top percent, you're going to see more of what you saw on the street."
